Description
Our client has been operating in Malaysia for over 25 years delivering some of the most advanced manufacturing plants and facilities. As a leader in the engineering and construction of high-tech facilities, our client offers a complete range of services from consulting to the managing of turnkey solutions, delivering to the highest quality and safety standards. In addition, they have a dedicated in-house capability for mechanical, electrical, and process engineering works including general fabrication, installation, and maintenance - to serve work packages on projects for other clients. They are currently looking for a Director Mechanical Engineering to join them on a project in Singapore.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading mechanical engineering concept development for advanced technology facilities (including semiconductor, battery, photovoltaic, and display sectors).
- Driving early-stage business development by engaging clients, understanding requirements, and shaping opportunities.
- Translating client needs into technically robust, cost-effective mechanical design and execution strategies.
- Overseeing system-level mechanical concepts including redundancy, routing, space planning, equipment selection, and schematics
- Leading value engineering initiatives to optimise cost, performance, and constructability throughout design development.
- Managing and reviewing technical proposals (RFPs, RFQs, RFIs), ensuring completeness, accuracy, and commercial alignment.
- Acting as subject matter expert for mechanical engineering across design development, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver fully integrated, buildable design solutions.
- Supporting estimating teams through development of bills of materials, cost models, and standardised design packages.
- Monitoring industry trends and developing benchmarking data to drive innovation and maintain technical competitiveness, including off-site manufacturing strategies.
- Ensuring compliance with safety-in-design principles, regulatory requirements, and quality standards, embedding a design-for-safety culture throughout projects.
You Will Need:
- Minimum 20 years’ of Design and Construction experience in a high-tech industry or other multiple discipline orientated construction business.
- At least 10 years of experience in a leading related position of a fast-track project.
- At least 5 years of experience of managing staff, coaching / mentoring and developing people.
- Experience in strategic and operational planning and implementation.
- Experience working overseas, ideally in Singapore / Malaysia.
- Holds an Honours or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- The ideal candidate will be Singaporean / hold Singaporean Permanent Residency.
